The Edirol R-09 sells for under $400
Some notes by users: battery and memory card compartment is incredibly badly designed and fragile. One report - noise floor is really noticeable, omni mic boot up 6 seconds mini inputs, outboard mic gain is hi/lo switchable, and "plug-in power" is toggled w/ software nice studio earphones seem to require more energy than the R-09 provides
